The 36 tall rectangular pieces of glass, set in a metal frame, were originally part of the study collection of the Basel Museum of Applied Arts, founded in 1878, and demonstrate the rich variety of colours and surface textures found in ‘verre américain’.

Cast glass coloured throughout.
The glass originates from the United States of America and was imported by Karl Engelbrecht, a glass artist and glass dealer with premises in Hamburg and Bielefeld. The inventory of the Gewerbemuseum Basel lists the entry on the 14th of February 1900.
