Albert Gayet was a French architect and archaeologist. In 1880, he was appointed temporary attaché to the new École française du Caire (from 1898 on Institut Français d’Archéologie Orientale) and remained there for three years. Subsequently, he published on art in Egypt and played a significant role in early Coptic studies. From 1895, Gayet collaborated with Émile Guimet, the founder of the Musée Guimet in Lyon (cf. IG_254–IG_257), and worked for the excavations at Antinoe/Antinoopolis in Middle Egypt (Calamant, 2011).
