Informations sur le bâtiment / l'institution

The Egyptian pavilion at the Vienna world's fair of 1873 was commissioned by the Egyptian Khedive Ismail Pasha and Heinrich Brugsch, the head of the exhibition commission. It was planned by the Bohemian architects František Schmoranz, who spent several years in Egypt, and Johann Machytka. The construction work was done mainly by local workers from Austria-Hungary. The structures of the Egyptian pavilion included the so-called Arab dwelling (Arabisches Wohnhaus) with a fountain (sabīl); a school and craft workshops; a domed mosque; two minarets; an ancient rock tomb; and a farmhouse. In total, more than 100 stucco windows had to be produced for the Egyptian pavilion.
