History

Research

Gustave Le Bon does not say to which mosque in Cairo this stucco and glass window belonged. Probably it belonged, like the windows in the following illustration (IG_77), to the collection of the Museum of Arab Art (Museum of Islamic Art MIA) in Cairo.
A very similar window of this common type with a depiction of a mosque is preserved in The Metropolitan Museum in New York (IG_184). The mosque design, also flanked by cypresses, is similar, but there is no inscription. Another similar stucco and glass window with mosque, flanked by cypresses, with inscription can be found in the Museum of Islamic Art in Cairo (454/5).
The same window has been drawn by Jules Bourgoin between 1881–1884 (IG_462).
