    Description

    Die in Kartuschenform geschnittene Glastafel mit der feinen Bleifassung dient als Rahmen für ein ovales Papierbildchen in Gouache-Malerei. Dieses zeigt den nimbierten heiligen Johannes den Täufer mit Buch und Stabkreuz, der in felsiger Landschaft auf das Lamm als Sinnbild Christi weist. Die Glastafel bester Qualität ist mit Kugel-, Facetten- und Mattschliff reich verziert. Die in Rocaille- und Architekturformen geschliffenen Partien sind mit Blattgold hinterlegt, die ganze Tafel mit roter Farbe hintermalt. Praktisch fehlerlose Spiegelglastafel, ein einzelner Ascherückstand oben rechts. Ränder rund geschliffen.

    Das im 20. Jahrhundert in Lissabon erworbene Werk dürfte bereits durch den böhmischen Handel des 18. Jahrhunderts in diese Gegend Portugals gelangt sein, denn Inventare böhmischer Glashandlungen in Cadix nennen schon 1751 unter anderem "vergoldete Schildel" und "Schildel mit ronde Bildel" (Schebek 1878. S. 195, 207), was auf derartige Werke bestens zutrifft.
