    Description

    Das vom bekrönten Reichsschild überhöhte Stadtwappen Huttwils wird von einem aufrecht stehenden Löwen gehalten. Dahinter erhebt sich vor farblosem, schnurverziertem Grund eine Doppelarkade aus zwei reich verzierten lila Rahmenpfeilern, einer schlanken blauen Mittelsäule und zwei blauen Bögen. Die erneuerte Stifterinschrift befindet sich unten am schmalen Podium.

    Research

    Im Inventar der Burgergemeinde Huttwil wird diese Stadtscheibe dem Zürcher Glasmaler Josias Murer (1564–1630) zugeschrieben und um 1600 datiert. Während für sie eine Entstehung in den Jahren zwischen 1590 und 1620 glaubhaft erscheint, ist ihre Zuweisung an Murer nicht haltbar. Obwohl sie sich stilistisch nicht klar einordnen lässt, darf man davon ausgehen, dass sie in der genannten Periode von einem Glasmaler bernischer Herkunft geschaffen wurde.
