Biografische Daten

M. Maynard was maître de requêtes in the Conseil d’État of France. He was the son of M. Maynard, president of the Senate and of the cour de cassation. He had a collection of diverse art objects: paintings, faïence, medallions, and other things. A part of his collection went to the Musée de Grenoble (Ménard, 1890, p. 160). He is probably the merchant mentioned by Prisse d’Avennes (1869–1877, vol. 1, p. 278). Prisse reports that M. Maynard sold the stucco and glass windows that should have been inserted in the buildings of the Egyptian section of the world’s fair of 1867.
Alternatively, M. Maynard may be the same person as M. Meymar (Husayn Fahmi al-miʿmar; see Volait 2021, p. 42, for this collector and merchant).
