Étienne Thevenot was a French glass-painter. In 1835, he started working on the restoration of the 13th-century stained-glass windows of the cathedral of Clermont-Ferrand.
From 1836, he was in contact with Prosper Mérimée, to whom he sent his writings, and in 1837 he was appointed by Mérimée as the correspondent for historic monuments for Puy-de-Dôme, becoming an inspector in 1848. He was involved in the restoration of the Sainte-Chapelle in Riom, which he helped to save in 1856. He also helped decorate the Saint-Amable basilica in Riom during its restoration.

His Essai historique sur le vitrail was published in 1837 as volume X of the Annales scientifiques et littéraires de l’Auvergne.
